Katie & Andrea are an L.A-based Acid Americana duo featuring singer/songwriter/guitarist Katie Skene (California Kind) and pedal steel/fiddle player Andrea Whitt (Zucchero, Shania Twain). They have each worked for many years in the jam band/Americana scene, sharing the stage with prominent artists including Bob Weir (Grateful Dead), Phil Lesh (Grateful Dead), and Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers Band). Now they have joined forces to create original music that they have dubbed "Acid Americana.” Their music melds vintage rock, blues, country, folk, and California psychedelia into a melodic dreamscape of sound that is sparking a buzz in the jam band community.
After spending the summer as the official entertainment for the Dead & Company Pre-show VIP Lounge, Katie & Andrea have put together a rapidly growing catalogue of original music with influences including Southern rock & soul, 60’s psychedelia, Delta blues, outlaw country, and 70’s California folk. Their arrangements feature various combinations of instrumentation, including electric, acoustic and resonator guitars, pedal steel, fiddle, viola, and mandolin, all composed, arranged, and performed by Katie & Andrea.
Katie & Andrea is just the latest collaboration for the two musicians. Katie has spent years as a bandleader and songwriter for various groups, from jam-band supergroup California Kind to southern rock and blues groups that draw heavily on her roots from the Southeast. Andrea tours extensively internationally with Zucchero and was a member of Shania Twain’s band for her Las Vegas residency. She has recorded and performed with Kamasi Washington and performed on Kendrick Lamar’s albums “To Pimp a Butterfly” and “Damn.”
The duo is in the midst of recording their debut EP, Adventures in Acid Americana, and are spending the fall playing shows in support of their upcoming releases. Their debut single "Sweet & High" was released on all major platforms on October 4th, 2019 with a follow up single, “Raincatcher” set for release on November 22nd.
